Welcome to our guide on building the best mage in the New World! In this article, we'll walk you through our recommended build for creating a formidable Mage character that excels in completing main quests, efficient leveling, and excelling in both PvE and PvP scenarios. Our priority for this article will be explaining to you our recommended build for completing the main quest seamlessly and leveling your character effortlessly up to a max, level 65. New World: Aeternum update is a great opportunity to start your adventure with the game. We want to share with you our favorite build to let you experience the most fun that comes to our mind when we think of this game combat system. This build may become your main from the very beginning on the beach to reaching endgame content like mutations and OPRs, we include recommended artifacts for late game, tips, and tricks we have learned for the past 3 years.
Firestaff will be our main hand weapon, which means it will be in our hands most of the time. Combining it with different weapons opens numerous combo options or transitioning to pure defense. Our recommendations for a secondary weapon to use with Fire staff are:
In this article, we will cover Ice Gauntlet as a secondary weapon as we have a particular playstyle in mind for this guide. If you are interested in reading about combining it with different from the list above, leave a comment saying so. You can also check our other NEW WORLD ONLINE BUILDS
Pros | Cons |
Versatile DPS role for leveling, late-game PvE and PvP | Low survivability |
Great AoE and DoT damage | No CC on Firestaff |
Best ranged DPS for many activities, especially Expeditions | It can be mana-hungry when we don't use passives |
Viable both in PvE and PvP |
Attribute Allocation
STRENGTH | 5 (+0) |
DEXTERITY | 5 (+0) - There are some reasons to reach 25 Dexterity Attribute Threshold, especially when you run some perks that trigger out of crits. If you run Rapier as your secondary it will also benefit you greatly. |
INTELLIGENCE | up to 400 - Despite bonuses ending up on the 350 mark, you can still put more attribute points to get more damage. However, you need to remember there higher you go with it more diminishing return you will have to consider as after 350, damage conversion drops quickly. |
FOCUS | 5 (+45) - The first two bonuses from the focus attribute will help any build. I wouldn't use it before I have at least 300 points in intelligence as Focus doesn't convert to any damage on our weapons. |
CONSTITUTION | 5 (+145) - We recommend you find a sweet spot for yourself from 150 to 250 Constitution. It will greatly increase the amount of burst damage you can take but other than that, this 50 Focus might get you better sustain overall. |
Weapons
[PRIMARY] Firestaff |
As you could already find out in other articles we like Firestaff a lot, as do most of the game community. The Fire Staff is a great choice for a primary weapon in New World because of its powerful ranged attacks and high damage output. It allows for a versatile playstyle, enabling you to deal damage from a distance while also causing lots of DoTs on your targets. The Fire Staff's abilities can be particularly effective in both PvE and PvP situations, making it a strong choice for players looking to excel in different aspects of the game. Additionally, the Fire Staff synergizes well with various secondary weapons, allowing for diverse and effective combat strategies. Let's take a look at the Firestaff weapon tree: Favor charging your base heavy attack in between casting your abilities to get cooldowns faster and replenish your mana. Remember to use abilities right after the animation of the attack ends to keep great DPS. Keep distance from your targets and in case you feel in danger use your Ice Gauntlet to make distance. [SECONDARY] ICE GAUNTLET |
The Ice Gauntlet is a popular secondary weapon choice in New World, offering powerful crowd control capabilities and a unique damage option for your main weapon with Ice Pylon ability. With its focus on freezing and controlling the battlefield, the Ice Gauntlet provides a unique playstyle that complements the Fire Staff perfectly. Whether you're looking to freeze enemies in their tracks or deal devastating area-of-effect damage, the Ice Gauntlet is an excellent addition to your arsenal. we'll dive into the active skills, core passives, and recommended playstyle for maximizing the potential of the Ice Gauntlet as a secondary weapon in your build. Items
Weapons: |
|
Perks: Flame attunement, Keen, Distained Infliction, Keen Speed Gem: There are some viable choices, we would recommend Opal if you like to dodge often, try Diamond if you stal full hp most of the time You can use either Deep Freeze or the Inferno Artifacts on weapons. The first will boost the damage of both weapons but it is harder to use and the second one favors Fire Staff and will always work within 15m of the enemy. |
|
Perks: Distained Infliction, Pylon burst, Refreshing Move Gem: Gems I mentioned above are also viable with the addition of Malachite which will boost damage on slowed enemies which two of your skills guarantee. |
|
Armor: | |
Most preferably use light equip load as it offers the most damage and best dodges. Medium is also viable when you find yourself fighting more up close with the flamethrower. 5 x Enchanted Ward or Elemental Aversion Gems: Split gem resistances evenly or use more elemental protection. If you are going to play Mutation dungeon, slot gems that correspond with the mutation. |
|
Jewelry: | |
Amulet: Health, Divine, Stamina Recovery Ring: Hearty, Refreshing, Fire Damage Earring: Regenerating, Fortifying Toast, Refreshing If you get an Endless Thirst artifact earring from Savage Divide mutated dungeon, it would be perfect. |
|
Heartgem Rune: | |
You can pick any of your liking, our recommendations would be: Stalwart Heartrune of Stoneform - Immunity to CC and healing and Cunning Heartrune of Cannon Blast - Unblockable burst damage that penetrates enemies. |
