The forces of Hell have been rising in power and numbers. The time to stop them from gaining power has come! In the Season of Infernal Hordes, you will face the army of Hell in a new challenging mode and collect valuable rewards like never before. But beware! Should you fail and let the Hell triumph, you will lose everything, so be prepared for the challenge! The new Season also brought us balance changes and new Legendary Aspects to alter your gameplay in exciting ways!
Overview
The main feature of the new Season is the Infernal Horde. It is an end-game system heavily focused on replayability. To access it you will have to complete the new Seasonal Questline and obtain Infernal Compass, which comes within 8 Tiers, each being more challenging but also more rewarding as you progress through Tiers. You should try to complete the Questline as soon as possible, as its rewards do not scale with your character level.
While progressing the Quest you will encounter the Hellbreaches which replace some of the existing Dungeons across the Sanctuary. There you will be tasked with collecting Aether by slaying monsters that reside there. At the end of the Hellbreach, you will be offered a choice that grants you a positive Boon and a negative Bane that affects the incoming battle against Boss of the Dungeon. It is a great introduction to the Infernal Horde, as it relies on the same, although more advanced, mechanics.
The Questline also introduces you to the new Reputation fraction, the Mother's Gift. As in previous Seasons, you will accumulate a Reputation simply by exploring the game and fighting Enemies, unlocking new rewards on the board. The final, 20 level grants you the Resplendent Spark which can be used to craft the Mythic Unique.
Infernal Compasses
The Infernal Compasses are the Keys to the Infernal Hordes. You will get your first Tier 1 Compass after completing the new Seasonal Questline. After that, you will be able to randomly obtain them from various End-game activities, such as Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons. To get higher Tiers of Compasses you will need to meet the specific requirements, for example, to unlock the Tier 5 Compass you will have to fully complete a level 100 Nightmare Dungeon on your own. The highest Tiers require you to delve deeper into the Pit of Artificers.
You will also be able to upgrade the level of your Compass with the Abyssal Scrolls. It is a consumable Item that raises the level of your Compass by 1. You can find it at the end of the Infernal Horde in the Spoil of Materials Chest, or rarely by salvaging your other Compasses if you got too much of them.
The Occultist is the main NPC responsible for the Infernal Compasses. Here you will be able to convert your low-tier Compasses into Sigil Powder and vice versa.

Infernal Horde
The Infernal Horde is the new system that provides a great mix of challenges and rewards. Here you will fight waves of incoming Enemies in hopes of being rewarded with valuable Loot. Each wave lasts for 60 seconds and becomes harder and harder as you progress. The first Tier of Horde starts with only 6 waves, which increases with the Tier up to 10 waves. The Tier also affects the level of Enemies you will be fighting, capping at level 200 in Tier 8 Horde.
The Enemies don't drop loot to not interrupt the flow of battle. Instead, they drop the Burning Aether and Mother's Gift, which you will collect automatically by running near it. At the end of the run, you will be able to open special Chests. To open each of them you will need to spend a specific amount of collected Aether, prompting you to collect as much Aether as possible. You should always use all your Aether at the end, as it doesn't transfer to your next Horde.
Between each Wave, you will encounter 3 Infernal Offerings. You can choose only one per wave, so you should take your time to think about each option. The Offering grants you one Boon that makes your easier or more rewarding, and one Bane that makes it harder to complete. All Boons and Banes lasts through all further waves until the end. You should remember that picking a Boon also affects the type of Enemies you will be facing in future waves, for example empowering the Hellborne Enemies will cause more Hellborne Enemies to appear. In each run, you should try to focus on one type of Enemies to maximize your rewards.
While fighting the waves, the Events will start to appear, usually in the form of a powerful enemy you will have to defeat. Try to control the battlefield and keep an eye on when it happens, as those encounters can be quite profitable! You can have multiple Events during a wave, so the faster you complete them, the more you can get out of them.
At the end of the final wave, you will fight the Fell Council. The Council consists of 5 members, but in each encounter, you will fight only 3 of them at once, chosen randomly each time. Each member of the Council has its own special attacks and abilities and specializes in different Elemental types. Be sure to have enough Resistance for each Element, as dying too many times will end your run prematurely!
Finally, after defeating the hordes of enemies and the Fell Council, you may choose your reward! You will have 4 options to choose:
The best and most expensive Chest, the Spoils of Greater Equipment is only available at World Tier 4. It guarantees all Items to have one Greater Affix, so you should always aim to have at least 60 Aether at the end to be able to open this chest. The Spoils of Material is also very useful, as it offers Materials necessary for Summoning Bosses or improving your gear.
